Basel: Government Council gives green light for Roche Nordareal development plan
The plans of F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd to construct new buildings in Basel over the next ten years at a cost of around CHF 3 billion are making good progress. The government council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt has approved the necessary development plan for the attention of the Grand Council and has also requested that the 89 objections received against the plans be rejected.

In the first stage, Roche is planning to replace the administration building on the corner of Grenzacherstrasse and Peter-Rot-Strasse (Building 74). A new research and development center for approx. 1,900 employees is to be built with four individual buildings of different heights (18 m, 28 m, 72 m and 132 m).
At the same time, another office tower for around 1,700 employees with a height of 205 meters is being built opposite the new Bau 1 office tower.
Eighty-nine objections and three suggestions were received against the plan submission. The main points of criticism concern what the objectors see as the lack of access to the site, particularly by public transport, as well as the long construction period and the associated impact on the neighborhood due to construction noise. The Government Council is asking the Grand Council to reject all objections.
The development plan is to be discussed by the Grand Council before the 2016 summer vacations. (ah)
