CSL Behring may build in Lengnau

Nothing stands in the way of the CHF 400 million new building project of the biotechnology group CSL Behring in Lengnau in the canton of Bern. The company has announced that the Federal Supreme Court has rejected the last appeal against the construction project.

With this ruling, a cantonal development order with building permit, which the canton of Bern issued in April 2015 in favor of CSL Behring, has become legally binding. However, CSL Behring has already started construction; the municipality of Lengnau allowed the company to start construction early for certain work, such as excavation and piling work.

The new "CSL Behring Recombinant Facility AG" plant will create 300 jobs. From 2019, CSL Behring plans to produce new cures for people with hemophilia there.

CSL Behring's plans to relocate were announced in May 2014. For Switzerland and the canton of Bern in particular, the pharmaceutical company's decision to locate in Lengnau was considered a major success, as it beat 45 other potential sites around the world. (ah)
