St. Gallen: SBB begins renovation of station buildings
In May 2015, the city of St. Gallen embarked on the redesign of Bahnhofplatz, and now SBB is also getting involved in the construction work. The first work on the conversion of the service building on the west side of the station will begin in January.

From mid-2016 until spring 2017, an enlarged travel center including baggage storage will be built in the passage in the west wing of the station building. The new location is centrally located between the two passenger underpasses.
Parallel to the renovations to the station buildings, work is starting on the renovation of the town hall underpass. It will be wider and brighter, with more access to the platforms and eleven new stores, according to SBB. There will be a total of 29 stores throughout the station in future, compared with 18 at present, with Coop occupying the largest area. The retailer mitet in the west of the station 500 square meters.
SBB is investing around CHF 58 million in the new station. The work is scheduled for completion in summer 2018. (ah)
