Berne: 2015 was second best tourism year
Despite the strong franc, Berne recorded a total of 714,000 overnight stays in 2015 - the second-best tourism year ever. Compared to the record previous year, 2015 closed with a decline of around 0.6 percent or 4,000 overnight stays.

In addition to the Swiss franc exchange rate, temporary closures or reduced room capacity due to renovations at the Astoria (Ibis Styles), Savoy and Ibis hotels also contributed to this, says Markus Lergier, director of Bern Tourism.
The good figures are now also attracting investors. In recent years, industry experts have never tired of emphasizing that there is a lack of capacity in the three- and four-star segment. Now there are plans for a new hotel in Wankdorf City, and if Viererfeld is realized, a hotel is also planned there. In Ostermundigen, Halter AG wants to build a hotel with around 100 rooms - in an annex to the Bären high-rise. (ah)
