Groundbreaking ceremony for Grand Hotel in Engelberg
At the beginning of April, ground was broken for the "Grand Hotel Titlis Palace" in Engelberg. Together with the "Europäischer Hof", which was built in 1904 and is being completely renovated, the Chinese investor Yunfeng Gao and Eberli Sarnen AG plan to build a luxury hotel with 117 rooms for CHF 100 million by December 2018. It will be the first five-star hotel in Engelberg.
The plans for the luxury hotel date back to 2008, and now the realization of the project is beginning. "It took a lot of perseverance and also endurance," said Toni Bucher, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Eberli Sarnen at the groundbreaking ceremony
In addition to the 117 rooms, the Grand Hotel will have a spacious spa and wellness area integrated into the top floor. Restaurants, seminar rooms, a bar, stores and a banquet hall will round off the facilities.
By building over the historic Kursaal and combining it with the existing art nouveau hotel Europäischer Hof, a grand hotel is to be created as an architectural and operational unit. Through the continuation of the classical division into base, middle building and roof as well as the adoption and reinterpretation of the façade division and façade structure of the existing Art Nouveau hotel, a unity is created.
Already after the groundbreaking ceremony, the first work was started. Excavation of the building pit will begin this summer. (ah)
