Hotels: Number of overnight stays rises in March
The number of overnight stays in Swiss hotels rose by 5.7 percent in March this year. According to Hotelleriesuisse, the mountain regions benefited from the increase, while all other regions recorded a decline.
Overnight stays in Ticino increased by 16.6 percent, followed by Grisons (+13.7%), Valais (+12.6%), Bernese Oberland (+11.4%), Lucerne/Central Switzerland (+10.3%) and Eastern Switzerland
According to Hotelleriesuisse, domestic tourists were the main contributors to the increase. Among European guests, the number of overnight stays in March rose year-on-year for the first time in a long time. Among non-European guests, the decline of Chinese guests (-5.4%) continues.
The good March has improved the balance of the winter season in the mountains so far, but could not compensate, the hotel association further informs. (ah)
