Logistics: Planning approval procedure for "Gateway Basel Nord
The planned large-scale terminal in the north of Basel is one step further. Gateway Basel Nord AG has submitted the application for the planning approval procedure for the first construction stage to the Federal Office of Transport.

A so-called trimodal large-scale terminal is planned: The transhipment facility will link road, rail and Rhine shipping on a site owned by SBB Cargo. The terminal will form a link between the Rhine-Alpine freight corridor, the national rail network and Rhine shipping.
In a first construction phase, the facility will be built for bimodal transshipment (road/rail and rail/rail). Successively, the capacity can be expanded and the connection to the Rhine can be realized with the construction of a new port basin. According to Gateway Basel Nord AG, the investment costs of the first construction stage of the terminal amount to CHF 73 million; a large part of the costs is to be covered by the federal government. The first stage is scheduled to start operations in 2019.
The three Swiss logistics and transport companies Contargo, Hupac and SBB Cargo are behind Gateway Basel Nord Ltd. The company was founded in June 2015 and is planning and realizing the Gateway Basel Nord together with the Swiss Rhine ports. (ah)
