Western Switzerland bids for Winter Olympics
The 2026 Winter Olympics are to come to Switzerland. The cantons of Valais and Vaud are preparing a bid. Graubünden also wants to apply for the Games with the support of the canton of Zurich.

As has now become known, the existing projects from the cantons of Valais and Vaud want to join forces to form a joint bid. The entire French-speaking part of Switzerland - from the cantons of Geneva, Fribourg, Neuchâtel and Jura to Bern - is to participate. In Valais, the project was launched by the president of FC Sion, Christian Constantin. The Vaud project was initiated by the Chamber of Commerce. The bid is entitled "The Swiss Made Winter Games 2026".
Graubünden is also preparing a bid for the 2026 Winter Games with the support of the canton of Zurich. By May 31, the initiators must submit the intention of a candidacy to the umbrella organization of Swiss sports associations, Swiss Olympic. The elaborated candidacy with venue must follow by December 15.
Switzerland has hosted the Winter Olympics twice so far: in 1928 and 1948 in St. Moritz. (ah)
