The 55-year-old National Councilor Daniel Fässler, Landammann in the Canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden (AI), was elected as the new President of the Real Estate Investors Association (VII) at the General Meeting on June 8, 2016 in Zurich. The VII represents pension funds, real estate divisions of insurance companies, banks and the large, investing private real estate companies in Switzerland.

Fässler, head of the Department of Economic Affairs AI, has long been familiar with the real estate industry: as a lawyer and notary, he has accompanied numerous real estate projects and investments during the financing and realization phases. He is also a member of the Commission for the Environment, Spatial Planning and Energy UREK.

According to a media release, the VII wants to get more intensively involved in the political debate in the future and closely accompany regulatory processes and projects. "The specialists and companies in the real estate industry that are organized in our association are to be involved in the political process on a continuous and formative basis. We want to help shape a Swiss settlement and housing policy that is far-sighted and sustainable. This requires a sustainable land policy and reasonable framework conditions," says Fässler. "Good investment opportunities for institutional investors and large Swiss real estate companies are enormously important in terms of the national economy and are in the interest of the Swiss population. They are the basis for a diversified housing supply in Switzerland." (ah)
