Berne: Swiss Post wants to concentrate locations
Swiss Post is planning to operate only one operating point for letter processing in the Bern area in the future. There are currently three such operating points.
Swiss Post currently operates a logistics center for letter processing (LZB) in the Bern area in Ostermundigen with 96 employees, a delivery point in Ostermundigen with 102 employees and a delivery point in the city of Bern with 175 employees. According to the plans, the Ostermundigen LZB operations will be integrated into the Härkingen mail center and the Berne delivery point by mid-2018. The Ostermundigen letter delivery jobs are to be distributed to existing operating locations in the Bern area as of the end of November 2019.
According to Swiss Post, the decision was made in response to declining letter volumes and increasing cost pressure. The mandatory consultation process is currently underway; it is to be completed at the beginning of September and then evaluated. Only then will Swiss Post make a final decision. (ah)
