The buildings on the Tetra Pak site are "of excellent quality", so that the chances are good of attracting new economic activities with high added value to Romont after the departure of Tetra Pak, writes the State Council in a statement. In view of the size of the site, partial areas will probably be leased to several companies.

Since the site is a strategic zone according to the cantonal structure plan, the State Council considers it important that the state intervenes by way of exception, the statement continues. It was to be feared that the market would not be able to guarantee a use in the short term that would correspond to the interests of the general public in the region and in the canton. The intervention of the state is to be considered as an active land policy. It is temporary, exceptional and must allow the launch of new industrial activities on this flagship site of the canton.

Provided that the Grand Council gives its consent, the State of Fribourg will acquire the site at the end of the first quarter of 2017. According to information from SRF to CHF 21 million. (ah)
