BREEAM certifications: TÜV Süd exclusive license partner in the DACH region
TÜV Süd has taken over the German Private Institute for Sustainable Real Estate Management (DIFNI) and is thus the exclusive license partner of BRE Global for certifying properties in accordance with the BREEAM standard in Switzerland, Germany and Austria.
With more than 100,000 certified buildings, BREEAM is the world's leading standard for sustainability certification in the real estate sector. The standard was developed by the British Building Research Establishment (BRE), but the requirements can be adapted to national circumstances.
The acquisition of DIFNI gives TÜV Süd the sole license in Switzerland, Germany and Austria to issue certificates and train auditors in accordance with the BREEAM standard. The corresponding contract with BRE Global has an initial term of ten years.
As Dr. Ulrich Klotz, Head of the Real Estate & Infrastructure Division at TÜV Süd, says, the importance of sustainability certifications is steadily increasing: "Institutional investors in particular are increasingly focusing on certified buildings". Another growth driver is the commitment of international companies to corporate social responsibility, which is also reflected in the obligation to rent office space that has been built in accordance with sustainability standards and certified accordingly. In his opinion, international standards in particular will prevail, allowing properties to be compared. (ah)
