First patient hotel in Switzerland opens in Lausanne
Switzerland's first patient hotel has opened for business on the grounds of Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV).
The hotel comprises 114 rooms in two buildings, was designed by B+W Architecture and is aimed at patients who are in a stable state of health but still require examinations or treatment in hospital. Relatives can also stay there together with the patients, but the three-star hotel is also open to healthy guests or participants in congresses at the CHUV, for example.
The patient hotel is intended to relieve the CHUV, and in the medium term up to 60 of the approximately 1,000 hospital beds in top-level medicine are to be freed up, according to the CHUV.
The hotel is a public-private partnership between CHUV, the Canton of Vaud, which provided the land, Reliva Hôtel des Patients SA and Retraites Populaires. CHF 33 million was invested.
Reliva was founded in Zurich in 2011 and claims to be the first operator of patient hotels in Switzerland. (ah)
