Schlieren: RBSGROUP plans new Zühlke headquarters
By the end of 2019, a center for education, research, and culture will be built in the former printing plant of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ) in Schlieren. One of the anchor tenants is Zühlke, which is building its future headquarters there on 8,300 square meters.

Zühlke, a service provider for innovation projects, is being supported in the implementation of the project in the old NZZ printing plant in Schlieren by RBSGROUP, a subsidiary of Drees & Sommer. A new working environment is being created for around 600 employees. RBSGROUP's workplace experts are supporting the planning of the future Zühlke headquarters and developing new office space together with the client.
Conversion from next year
The building and industrial complex, some of which are 30 years old and owned by Swiss Prime Site (SPS) AG, will be converted and renovated from 2018. Startups, research institutions and cultural venues will also be able to use the former industrial site near Schlierem train station in the future, "transforming it into an innovative and flexible working environment," according to a Drees & Sommer media release.
Zühlke is relocating its headquarters to the old printing center due to the growing number of employees and the associated increase in space requirements. The company is planning new offices, meeting rooms, lounge areas as well as laboratories and a staff restaurant in the 18-meter-high rotogravure hall of the old NZZ printing plant. Four intermediate floors will be inserted in the hall, so that the new floors thus created will accommodate all Zühlke employees who have so far been working at two locations in Schlieren.
Workshops for Workplace Design
"Transforming the former industrial hall into an attractive office landscape is an exciting challenge. Our goal: to retain the loft charm of the industrial halls while creating a modern and flexible working environment," says Constanze Weihs, senior project partner at RBSGROUP. Together with Zühlke, the company developed a site strategy, the result of which is the choice of the future headquarters.
As the project progresses, RBSGROUP's experts analyze the user requirements as well as the space program. To this end, they lead a series of workshops: In addition to the concept for the new working environment, the focus is also on workplace design. On the one hand, they examine which workplace forms - whether individual offices, team islands or multi-zones - will be needed in the future. Secondly, the experts are planning the interior design of the premises. The conversion work is scheduled to start next year; Zühlke employees are expected to be able to move into their new workplaces from the end of 2019.
