Arc-Award: BIM prizes awarded for the first time

Four winners of the Arc-Award architecture competition in the BIM (Building Information Modeling) category were announced at the Swiss BIM Congress at the end of October.

Awarded: The digital twin of the new headquarters of Scott Sports SA in Givisiez FR (visualization: Itten+Brechbühl).

The architecture competition organized by Swiss Construction Documentation and the 24 submissions showed that the topic of BIM in Switzerland has taken a big step forward compared to the previous year, said Birgitta Schock, this year's Arc Award jury president. One gold and one silver prize were awarded in each of the two focus areas "Collaboration" and "Innovation".

The gold award "Collaboration" went to Itten+Brechbühl for their project "Headquarters Scott Sports SA". Silver was awarded to the "Office and Commercial Building Zurich West" by EM2N Architekten. In the "Innovation" focus area, the "Aglaya Garden High-Rise" by Zug Estates AG was awarded gold, while silver went to the "PSW Nant de Drance" submitted by AF-Consult Switzerland.

The jury consisted of President Birgitta Schock, Chairperson buildingSMART chapter Switzerland, Martin Fischer, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University in California and Director of the Center for Integrated Facility Engineering (CIFE), and Philipp Dohmen, Vice President of the Commission for Information Technology Standards (KIN) of the SIA and member of the steering committee of Bauen digital Schweiz.

The monocategorical Arc-Award BIM 2017 was a novelty that took into account the growing importance of BIM, Schock explained. In 2018, the Arc-Award architecture prize will again be offered in various categories including BIM, as usual.
