New hurdles for the new construction project "Hotel Flaz
There is opposition to the planned construction of the Hotel Flaz in Pontresina. Opponents of the project are taking their case to the Federal Court.
A new three-star sports hotel is to be built on the municipal Roseg sports ground in Pontresina. The project, estimated at around CHF 20 million (excluding land), is being built under building rights and will be realized by a group of investors consisting of Werner Baumgartner, Luis Wieser and Kurt Baumgartner (source: HRS).
The municipality has already given its approval: At the end of 2014, the voters of the municipality of Pontresina approved the spatial planning principles with the rezoning of the site. The plans for the five-storey Hotel Flaz with 94 rooms and 188 beds are well advanced, the planning application has been submitted - but the project is now a case for the Federal Supreme Court.
In the meantime, there is opposition to the building project. According to critics, the planned project is too large and does not fit into the village landscape. At the end of 2017, a committee submitted an initiative demanding the preservation of the sports field and a "hotel that is compatible with the village". The municipality rejected the initiative on the grounds that the protest came too late - after all, the people had already said yes to the new hotel. A decision that was upheld by the Graubünden Administrative Court. However, the initiators are now taking the case to the Federal Supreme Court, according to regional media reports.
