Expo Real 2020 with a difference

Expo Real in Munich will not take place in its usual format this year. Instead, Messe München wants to facilitate a meeting of the real estate industry with an event christened "Expo Real Hybrid Summit".

Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, Messe München GmbH, the organizer of the annual international real estate and investment trade show, has developed a hybrid event format for this fall - the "Expo Real Hybrid Summit". The replacement event, a mix of on-site conference and digital communication, is scheduled for October 14 and 15 and consists of a conference at the ICM International Congress Center Munich and a digital edition taking place at the same time.

Around 7,000 square meters are available at the ICM; the organizers hope to have around 5,000 participants on site, depending on what the authorities allow. According to Messe München, the City of Munich, Union Investment Real Estate, Deka Immobilien Investment, German Council of Shopping Centers, the brokerage house Aengevelt and the associations ZIA and IVD have confirmed their participation directly.

On the one hand, conferences are planned for the event, which will be held at the ICM and can also be attended via livestream. On the other hand, there are to be "Smart Spaces" for exhibitors who want to present themselves on site - bookable standard trade fair stands measuring 9 to 24 square meters. Furthermore, the trade show wants to provide areas for special topics, such as digitalization and start-ups. The integration of international networks is also planned: Expo Real partners, for example in Great Britain, the USA or France, can be integrated into the Hybrid Summit online on current country-specific topics.

The content of the conference program will be worked out in the coming weeks. It is already clear that the impact of the Corona pandemic will be a central topic: What does Corona mean for real estate and investments in Germany and other markets? How does Corona affect the various asset classes? What does the digitalization push triggered by Corona mean for the industry?

For 2021, everyone involved then hopes for an Expo Real like the real estate world is used to - enriched by the virtual elements from the Corona year 2020. (bw)
