On our own account: Real Estate Business continues to lead the way

The print magazine IMMOBILIEN Business, the online portal Immobilienbusiness.ch, the IB Newsletter, and the Immobilienbrief continue to be among the most widely read trade publications among German-speaking real estate experts in Switzerland. This is the result of a survey conducted by CUREM on media usage in the industry.

Every two years, the Center for Urban & Real Estate Management (CUREM) at the University of Zurich asks German-speaking Swiss real estate experts about their media consumption, and this will be the fifth time in summer 2020. The survey asks which daily and weekly newspapers, real estate-specific trade magazines, websites, newsletters and social media sites real estate professionals use.

According to CUREM, 452 Swiss real estate professionals participated in this year's survey, most of whom work in investment management, project development, spatial planning and development, consulting, as well as architecture and specialist planning - and most of them in managerial positions.

The survey shows: As in 2018, "IMMOBILIEN Business" is the most popular trade magazine with a readership of 37%, followed by Hochparterre (27%) and Tec21 (26%). The website Immobilienbusiness.ch is visited by almost 20% of the participants on a weekly basis - making it the most-read online portal in the industry. It is followed in 2nd and 3rd place by Hochparterre.ch with around 8% and Espacesuisse.ch with around 5% readers.

The IMMOBILIEN business newsletter is frequently read by 39% of the respondents and the Immobilienbrief by 32% of the survey participants. This makes the two publications among the most widely read newsletters in the industry - topped only by the CUREM newsletter, which is frequently read by around 55% of respondents. According to CUREM, however, this high figure is also due to the sample used, as the newsletter's mailing list was used for the survey.

Compared with the last media survey, print and online media consumption had declined slightly, CUREM added. Readers of print media also frequently visit the associated online media. Another finding: since 2018, the use of social media platforms has tended to gain in importance, with a shift among business networks from the German-language platform Xing to the more internationally oriented network LinkedIn. The social media platform Instagram is gaining in importance compared with 2018, while Facebook is showing a slight decline. (ah)
