According to a media release from Amazon Web Services (AWS), the infrastructure region AWS Europe (Zurich) Region will consist of three so-called Availability Zones - which are clusters of data centers. The company wants to enable its Swiss customers to offer their services from data centers within Switzerland; the data remains in the country.

The Zurich region will be the eighth infrastructure region in Europe, AWS said. Globally, there are currently 24 regions with 77 availability zones. AWS has had an office in Zurich since 2016, and added a location in Geneva in 2017. (ah)
