Swiss Post wants to concentrate office space throughout Switzerland

Since the coronavirus pandemic, the occupancy rate of office space at Swiss Post has fallen massively. A new strategy with twelve office hubs should make it more attractive again.

Swiss Post wants to create up to twelve regional office hubs in all language regions of Switzerland by 2030 to "make the office working environment more attractive again". Its office space is currently much less utilized than before the coronavirus pandemic: in some cases, occupancy is below 40%, compared to an average of 80% a few years ago, Swiss Post reports. With the regional office hubs, it wants to offer its employees "added value and thus a reason to work in the office". In the regional office hubs, there will be more rooms for workshops and projects and at the same time more quiet workplaces. This is a need of the workforce in contrast to pure open-space offices, according to Swiss Post.

Swiss Post currently has its headquarters in Berne and a large number of small office spaces, which suffer from the low capacity utilization described above. These small locations are to be gradually abandoned in favor of the "hubs". The company intends to set up the new locations at sites with good transport links, and the new strategy is to be implemented step by step by 2030. The first three locations are reportedly planned for Bern, Zurich and Olten. (aw)
