Swiss construction investment continues to rise

Construction spending in Switzerland increased by a nominal 3.1 percent in 2014 compared with the previous year. Construction investment in building construction projects also increased by this figure, while that in civil engineering projects rose by 4.5 percent. This is shown by provisional data from the 2014 construction statistics of the Swiss Federal Statistical Office (SFSO). In 2013 and 2012, construction spending had increased by 3.2 and 3.4 percent in nominal terms, respectively.

According to the FSO, construction spending again increased by more than 3% in 2014

Investments in new construction projects increased by 1.7 percent year-on-year and the investment amount in remodeling projects increased by 6.5 percent compared to 2013. Private clients invested more in both new construction (+2.3%) and remodeling (+4.6%). Public clients increased their investments in remodeling projects (+9.5%), but invested less in new construction projects (-0.9%).

Investments in building construction projects increased by 3.1 percent year-on-year. Investments in civil engineering projects increased by 4.5 percent year-on-year. Private clients increased investment in both building construction (+2.7%) and civil engineering (+7.5%). Public clients also invested more in building construction (+5.1%) and civil engineering projects (+3.8%), the FSO writes. (mr)
