Ostermundigen: The people say yes to the "Bärenareal" development
The voters of the Ostermundigen municipality have approved the "Bärenareal" development plan and the amendment to the building regulations. This means that the CHF 145 million project can be tackled.

With a voter turnout of 46.6 percent, the proposal was accepted with 2,892 to 1,617 votes, the Ostermundigen municipal council announced. The result shows that the population of Mundiger looks forward to a forward-looking development of the municipality.
At the entrance to Ostermundigen and only a few meters from the train station, Halter AG as project developer is planning a superstructure on a site area of 7,200 sqm. The centerpiece is the "Bear Tower", which will house apartments, a hotel and a panoramic restaurant and, at 100 meters, will be the tallest building in the canton of Bern.
Like the first floor of the "Bärenturm", the "Bärenhof" annex building will include retail space, and office and service space as well as an underground car park are also planned. The plans were drawn up by the architectural firm Burkard Meyer Architekten. The owners are Bären Ostermundigen AG, Modul Bern AG and Remund Rudolf.
Construction could start in 2017, and then completion would be in 2019. (ah)
