Bern: Switzerland's largest post office opened
Yesterday, Monday, Switzerland's largest post office opened for business in the newly built PostParc near Bern's main train station. The large branch has a total of 18 post office counters and extended opening hours as well as a comprehensive range of services for private and business customers.
The offering in Berne is supplemented by a PostFinance branch, two Postomats and a My Post 24 machine. For business customers, Swiss Post is opening an additional business customer acceptance point at Kornhausplatz 7 (in the premises of Peter Gaffuri AG). "Swiss Post's access points are thus being realigned in downtown Bern," according to the company. The provisional former Schanzenpost post office on Effingerstrasse and the post office on Bärenplatz have been integrated into PostParc, along with the two post office box facilities. PostFinance is also moving from its provisional premises on Belpstrasse to PostParc after more than a year. The changes will not affect the current post office in Kramgasse, the second PostFinance branch in Berne at Bärenplatz and the Postomats there.
Swiss Post invested around 300 million Swiss francs in the new PostParc business center at Bern's main train station. In November 2011, ground was broken for the current site, which comprises three buildings with around 40,000 square meters of service and office space. PostParc is owned by PostFinance AG. The Coop sales outlet in PostParc had already started operations at the beginning of the month. In the meantime, various service providers have also moved into the PostParc high-rise. For example, the IT consulting company itelligence and the IFA college of higher education have started their business activities there, according to Swiss Post. (mr)
