Liestal: SBB invests 35 million in station project
The railroad station in Liestal (BL) is to be completely rebuilt. Two buildings with apartments as well as office and commercial space are planned; SBB intends to invest around CHF 35 million.
The "Le mur du quai" project by Burkard Meyer Architekten emerged as the winner of a competition. The firm's past projects include the WestLink Tower and Kubus in Zurich as well as the Torfeld Süd football stadium in Aarau.
The project envisages a 15-metre and a 25-metre high brick building, which will be connected by a horizontal transition. In the actual station building, areas for services, sales and apartments are planned in addition to recreational facilities. Retail and office space is to be created in the second building. The new buildings are to be constructed between 2023 and 2025 together with the rail unbundling at Liestal station.
SBB is also planning to construct another 57-metre-high building with a floor area of 12,500 square meters on the site. An architectural competition is to be held for this in 2017. The building could serve as an administrative building for the canton of Basel-Landschaft, for example. (ah)
