Eastern Switzerland Arbon: ZIK Immo continues to invest

Over the next four years, ZIK Immo AG will invest a further CHF 40 million in several construction projects at the former Saurer plant in Arbon's old town.

As ZIK-Immo co-owners Konradin Fischer and Heinz Nyffenegger told the St. Galler Tagblatt said, the projects are to be realized in a staggered manner in the period from 2017 to 2019. The company acquired the site from Saurer in 2002 and has since refurbished and re-let large parts of the complex.

Schlossplatz - a paved area in the extension of Schlossgasse in front of the former administration building - will be upgraded and made largely car-free. The current parking spaces will be eliminated. Instead, a new two-story collective garage with 300 spaces will be built in the center of the area. A new office building is planned above the parking lot.

The approximately 50-year-old "ZiK" building on Weitegasse is being extensively renovated, hollowed out down to the supporting structure, topped up with a parapet storey and converted for residential purposes. A total of 37 apartments are planned, with one floor for offices.

On the bike path by the lake, east of the Saurer Museum, ZIK Immo AG is building a "lake house": there will be a restaurant area with a terrace, plus eight apartments.

Finally, at "ZaK", the former lathe shop where lofts have already been built in, 13 prefabricated maisonette houses with outdoor areas will be erected in timber frame construction - on a studded, cantilevered structure.

The volumes for two further building sites have been defined in the design plan. The development of these areas is to be tackled later. (ah)
