Green light for new quarter in Brunnen

In Ingenbohl-Brunnen, a 28-hectare industrial site formerly used by Holcim is to be converted into a residential and working area. The cantonal land use plan comes into force on June 3, 2016; landowners and investors can now submit design plans and building applications.

Holcim AG ceased operations at its cement plant in Brunnen in 2008, and since then the canton has been working with the local community to examine options for a new use. Housing for various stakeholder groups, open spaces, and office and commercial areas are planned. It is to be built in several stages.

When completed, the new development could include around 1,400 workplaces and apartments for up to 1,200 residents. Around 80 apartments are to be realized in the affordable housing segment. The canton expects the site to be redeveloped in ten to twelve years.

In April 2013, the cantonal land use plan (KNP) was made available to the public for the first time. After lengthy negotiations, an agreement was reached with all objectors and the land use plan was made available to the public for the second time at the beginning of 2016. Three objections were received against the second public display of the Brunnen North land use plan, which have since been withdrawn. (ah)
