Amgen moves into the "Suurstoffi
The biotechnology company Amgen is relocating its European headquarters to the "Suurstoffi" in Risch Rotkreuz. According to Zug Estates, Amgen will move into the new building "Suurstoffi 22" in summer 2018 as an anchor tenant.
Pascal Arnold, head of property management and marketing at Zug Estates, says: "Amgen will further strengthen the local life science cluster with Roche and Novartis, which are based in Risch Rotkreuz." Together with the locally based companies and the IT department of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, the Suurstoffi is to be further developed into an "ideal environment for innovative companies," he adds.
The new head-end building for Amgen is being constructed at the eastern end of the site and will be the tallest wood-concrete hybrid high-rise in Switzerland with ten floors when completed. The building permit was issued on July 26, 2016. Construction started at the end of August; completion is scheduled for 2018. Suurstoffi 22" was designed by Burkard Meyer Architekten.
This is not the first wooden building to be realized by the developer Zug Estates AG: in 2010, the Hotel City Garden in Zug was opened as Switzerland's first four-story wooden hotel. On the northern part of the Suurstoffi site, nine buildings with a total of 156 residential units were built from 2013 to 2014 using timber elements and timber hybrid construction. (ah)
