Basel: Roche can build second office tower

The Roche pharmaceutical group can go ahead with its construction plans in Basel's Wettstein district. According to the canton of Basel-Stadt, no appeals have been filed against the development plan for the northern area.

This means that the development plan is now legally binding and effective, and Roche can pursue the development of the site accordingly.

The deadline for filing appeals against the development plan or against the decision of the Grand Council has passed unused. The canton sees the reason for this, among other things, in the "intensive and constructive negotiations between the canton of Basel-Stadt, Roche and the Wettsteinquartier Homeowners and Residents Association (HEAW)". For example, measures were agreed to reduce noise pollution on Grenzacherstrasse and improve the parking situation for residents in Wettsteinquartier.

Roche is planning several buildings up to 132 meters high for a research center on the site along Grenzacherstrasse. In addition, a 205-meter office building is to be built, which will be another 27 meters higher than "Bau 1," currently the tallest building in Switzerland at 178 meters. The Group plans to invest three billion CHF in the expansion. (ah)
