Bern gets a new city planner
Jeanette Beck will take over as head of Bern's urban planning office next year. Her predecessor Mark Werren is retiring.

Bern's municipal council has appointed Jeanette Beck as the new head of the city planning office. She will take up the post on July 1, 2023, succeeding Mark Werren, who will retire in mid-2023.
The 45-year-old Beck has worked in various functions at the Bern City Planning Office since 2011, and in 2020 she was appointed deputy head of the office. She is particularly interested in the cooperation of urban planning with other topics such as business location, infrastructure, mobility or culture, writes the city of Bern in a statement.
Beck grew up in Cologne, studied architecture at RWTH Aachen and graduated from ETH Zurich. The German-Swiss dual citizen has lived in Bern for fifteen years. According to the City of Bern, the city is "convinced that in Jeanette Beck we have appointed an urban planner who will be able to further develop Bern for future generations under the banner of climate protection and climate adaptation with great professional and social competence".
