WiWi faculty of the University of Zurich receives extension building
The Faculty of Economics at the University of Zurich can be expanded more quickly than other projects in the university area. The cantonal council voted in favor of an early partial revision of the structure plan as well as an object credit of CHF 13 million. An extension is now to be built on the Plattenstrasse 14-22 site.
The extension will house offices, meeting rooms and workstations, as well as a library. The property should be ready for occupancy in summer 2017.
The background to the rapid expansion is the sharp rise in student numbers and the resulting shortage of space. In 2005, 3,342 women and men were studying economics in Zurich, but by 2012 the number had risen to around 4,900, an increase of 47 percent. (ah)
