Zurich: The people say yes to the Limmattal Railway
The Limmattalbahn can be built. On November 22, almost two-thirds of the people of Zurich voted in favor of the credit for the construction of the supra-cantonal streetcar. However, in the future location municipalities of Schlieren and Dietikon, a majority voted against the project.
The vote was specifically on Zurich's share of the gross credit of CHF 510 million for the construction of the Limmat Valley Railway. A further CHF 136 million will be invested in improvements to the road network. The supracantonal streetcar for the agglomeration in the west of Zurich is intended to absorb the growing traffic in the district of Dietikon.
A first stage from Altstetten station to Schlieren Geissweid is scheduled to open in 2019, and the entire 13-kilometer line with 27 stops to Killwangen (AG) in 2022. (ah)
