Zurich: Is the marketing of the Fifa apartments hampering?

According to a report in the Tages-Anzeiger, renting out the 34 luxury apartments above the future Fifa Museum near Enge station is going rather slowly.

As of March 1, the 34 high-quality furnished apartments ranging from 66 to 126 square meters will be available for monthly rents between CHF 3,000 and CHF 8,100. According to Tages-Anzeiger marketing has been underway since October 2015, but at last count only three apartments were rented and five reserved. However, Marc Caprez, spokesman for the Fifa Museum, says that interest is very high. So far, he says, more than 300 applications have been received, and in many cases a lease is about to be signed.

The somewhat less expensive apartments on floors three to five and the large and expensive apartments on the eighth and ninth floors are in particularly high demand. A strikingly large number of prospective tenants come directly from the neighborhood, including many wealthy senior citizens. Potential tenants appreciate the fact that the building is guarded around the clock because of the Fifa Museum and that the entrances are secured. The ongoing negative headlines surrounding the world soccer association are "not an issue," Caprez told the Tages-Anzeiger.

Most recently, several market participants had reported that the prices of luxury apartments are eroding throughout SwitzerlandIn addition, leasing in this segment has been sluggish for some time, and in some cases high discounts have to be granted. (ah)
