New event hall planned in Oerlikon

Hall 622 in Zurich-Oerlikon is to be used as a replacement venue for events from the beginning of 2017. According to Maag Music & Arts AG, this interim solution will be chosen to provide space for concerts, corporate events and exhibitions with up to 3,500 guests, while Maag-Eventhall and the old Härterei in Zurich-West will no longer be used for events of this kind.

Maag Music & Arts wants to conclude a five-year lease agreement with ABB Schweiz AG as the owner of the hall in Zurich North and invest five to six million francs in the conversion itself. Within walking distance of the Oerlikon train station, the hall on Therese-Giehse-Strasse will also be able to accommodate temporary installations for show and TV productions, for example.

The background to the interplay is the City of Zurich's targeted Renovation of the Kongresshaus and Tonhalle between 2017 and 2020. The Tonhalle Orchestra will receive a purpose-built wooden box structure in the Maag Eventhall with space for up to 1,200 guests (design: Spillmann Echsle Architekten). This temporary structure is expected to cost 8.6 million Swiss francs.

Maag Music & Arts AG hopes to have the building permit for Hall 622 in its hands before the summer vacations. However, the decisive factor for the realization of the plans for the hall is first of all the Zurich electorate on June 5, which must approve the renovation project for the Kongresshaus and the Tonhalle.
