Zurich: German hotel chain plans 320-room building in Vulcano

Hamburg-based a-ja Resort und Hotel GmbH plans to open a new 320-room city resort hotel in Zurich's "Vulcano" development in 2018. For this purpose, a lease agreement has been signed with an investment group of Credit Suisse Investment Foundation, a-ja announces.

With 320 rooms, the "aja City Resort" will be one of the largest hotels in Zurich. The future resort is planned in the Vulcano building complex at Vulkanstrasse 110 in the west of Zurich. Steiner AG is responsible for the development and superstructure of the approximately 12,000 sqm site as real estate developer and total contractor. Steiner also created the utilization concept for a hotel operation. The building owner is a Credit Suisse investment group with which a-ja has signed a long-term lease agreement, subject to legally binding building permission from the authorities.

The design of the three striking towers on a base building with a total of 25 floors and a basement comes from the Parisian office Dominique Perrault Architecture. The entire Vulcano complex is scheduled to be completed and open at the end of 2018. The future a-ja resort is located in the base building and extends from the first floor to the fifth floor. The future residential tenants of Vulcano will be able to use a-ja services such as catering, SPA and cleaning services.

The a-ja City Resort will have a fitness and wellness area with a rooftop alpine garden and outdoor sauna, and two restaurants are also planned. Despite the many services, the City Resort concept is to be priced in the midscale segment.

The a-ja City Resort Zürich is the sixth resort of the young hotel brand, which wants to expand further at classic vacation locations as well as in the city. Holger Hutmacher, managing partner of a-ja Resort und Hotel GmbH, says: "Having developed a future concept for the classic vacation hotel industry, a-ja is now entering German-speaking metropolises and looking for locations for further expansion. Zurich will be the first resort for vacations in the city, with more to follow."

a-ja Resort und Hotel GmbH is a subsidiary of Deutsche Seereederei GmbH. The a-ja concept was developed by the inventors of the AIDA and A-ROSA brands. The first a-ja resort opened in Warnemünde at Easter 2013, followed by Grömitz and Bad Saarow in 2015. (ah)
