Cinema operator becomes new anchor tenant in Basel's "Stücki
Swiss Prime Site has concluded a long-term lease agreement for the "Stücki" with the cinema operator Arena Cinemas. Over the next two years, 18 cinemas with 2,400 seats will be built on an area of around 14,000 sqm.
According to Swiss Prime Site, owner of the Basel mall, the cinema complex will be embedded in the existing structure and will have a large foyer and a gastro and catering concept. The cinema operator Arena Cinemas is already represented in Geneva, Fribourg, Zurich and Lugano with around 50 cinemas.
The new anchor tenant represents "another important milestone in the strategic transformation and further development of the property," according to Swiss Prime Site. The "Stücki" is increasingly changing from a pure retail mall to a "lively melting pot with great opportunities for the future", the company is convinced. Service and experience areas, together with sales areas, are to play an equally important role in the future.
Swiss Prime Site sees itself on track with the realignment: The GYYM fitness center, which has been rented since February 2016, has taken on over 4,000 members within a very short time. In addition, tenants are currently recording significant increases in footfall despite a difficult consumer environment.
Entire area is being further developed
The realignment of the shopping center is also an important step in the further development of the entire site. By 2023, the existing Sciencepark will be expanded in two stages with new buildings to meet the demand for laboratory and office space in the Basel region.
In the process, the two areas of Sciencepark and Shopping/Experience are to be more closely interwoven with overarching offerings such as gastronomy and services as part of the development project. The aim is to create a "campus" for innovation, knowledge, shopping and experience, Swiss Prime Site adds.
