Migros inaugurates restaurant on Monte Generoso

After two years of construction, Migros inaugurates the new panorama restaurant on Monte Generoso. The building by renowned architect Mario Botta replaces the former hotel.

The panoramic restaurant "Fiore di pietra" on the Ticino mountain Monte Generoso is open to the public from April 8. The construction is financed by the Migros cultural percentage. The neighboring mountain railroad also belongs to the Migro cooperative.

When the then Hotel-Restaurant Vetta had to be demolished after a landslide in October 2010, Migros decided to build a new building on the same site. The contract was won by world-famous architect Mario Botta, who designed not only the building but also the interior.

The "Fiore di pietra" (stone flower) has an octagonal base, whose central
rooms are enclosed by "petals". On the east side, the "flower crown" leaves room for
a terrace that follows the course of the ridge. The reinforced concrete structure is equipped with
gray natural stone cladding. The individual towers are equipped with glazed surfaces
that allow a 360-degree panoramic view: to the south, of the Po Valley in Milan; to the
North on Lake Lugano and the Alps.
