PWG builds in Zurich-Unterstrass
The PWG Foundation is building a new building with 21 affordable apartments in Zurich-Unterstrass. The groundbreaking ceremony will take place on April 6.

PWG is replacing an existing building on Waldmeisterweg in Zurich-Unterstrass with a new building. The 21 new apartments are aimed specifically at families and flat-sharing communities and should be ready for occupancy in 2018.
The building is being constructed according to plans by Lütjens Padmanabhan Architekten from Zurich, who won the competition as a junior team and are now carrying out their first major project. The demolition of the existing building, which dates back to 1947 and no longer meets today's living and energy requirements, began at the beginning of March. The ground-breaking ceremony for the new building will take place on April 6. The construction project will cost around CHF 12 million.
The new building has many 4.5-room apartments, which are rare in the city of Zurich, according to PWG. The target groups are families and flat-sharing communities. "These groups of tenants find it particularly difficult to find an affordable apartment in the city of Zurich," says Jürg Steiner, Managing Director of the foundation.
The non-profit foundation PWG was founded in 1985 following a popular initiative. The PWG was given the task of preserving affordable residential and commercial space and creating new buildings. It currently manages 138 properties with a total value of around CHF 627 million.
