The municipality of Pratteln in the Basel region could get a completely new district. How the Basel newspaper first reported, the entrepreneur Hermann Alexander Beyeler wants to build a housing development north of the railway station for around 2,400 people. Pratteln currently has around 16,000 inhabitants.

According to the newspaper report, the new quarter, which is to be built on an 83,000 sqm site, will include commercial space, restaurants, hotels, public showrooms and a geriatric centre in addition to residential space.

The site is the former site of the Buss industrial company and the Wasa site, which was purchased by Buss Immobilien und Service AG at the end of 2014. Buss Immobilien has already built the "Anaxo" business center in Pratteln, and the "Ceres Tower" was also a project of the real estate company. In 2015, Buss Immobilien sold the project, including the land, to Credit Suisse.

The Pratteln municipal council is open to Beyeler's new project. They were informed about the project at first hand at the beginning of April, according to the bz. However, the municipality would like the developer to provide an overall urban planning view, an overall traffic concept and a publicly accessible park.

A neighbourhood plan must be drawn up for the major project. It is not yet known when the next planning steps will take place.
