Fribourg: Canton creates fund for land acquisition
According to an SRF report, the canton of Fribourg is setting up a CHF 100 million fund to acquire industrial land.
How the Swiss Radio and Television SRF reports, the Grand Council of the Canton of Fribourg has approved a corresponding proposal by the government. The fund will initially be endowed with CHF 100 million, but could be increased later.
The cantonal government intends to use the money to buy up sites and then offer them to companies willing to locate there. Fribourg hopes that this will bring advantages in terms of location promotion.
A large part of the 100 million has already been spent: For 20 million, the canton has acquired the site of the former research institute in St. Aubin and land in Marly from the US company Elanco. In addition, last fall the canton has the Tetra Pak site in Romont secured, the purchase price was CHF 21 million according to earlier media reports.
