Lucerne: ABL and Matt plan superstructure on Bernstrasse
The Allgemeine Baugenossenschaft Luzern (ABL) and the Baugenossenschaft Matt are planning a new housing development on Bernstrasse in Lucerne. The architectural competition was won by the Basel-based firm Luca Selva Architekten with its "Forever Young" project.
ABL and Matt want to build a cooperative housing development on the upper Bernstrasse site. Around 150 different apartments are planned: The mix ranges from shared apartments to family apartments and residential studios.
Luca Selva Architects convinced the jury with the project "Forever Young" through a clever urban design of three different building volumes, which create different outdoor spaces and meeting places: Generous entrance areas and a community room invite neighborly meetings, a backyard-like garden with meadows, trees, seating and a playground allows for rest and relaxation, and a public square with a café serves as a connection to the neighborhood. The entire development is provided with a comprehensive path system; mixed uses on the first floors further enliven the Bernstrasse neighborhood.
All apartments facing Bernstrasse are designed as continuous living and dining spaces, allowing good sunlight and wide views. Living space, rooms and wet rooms benefit from glazed oversized bay windows, which serve as noise protection and allow light into the interior spaces.
The building application should be submitted in the fall of 2018, with the earliest possible start of construction in the spring of 2019.
