Basel: Canton and insurance company realise "Baloise Platz
In connection with the new construction project "Baloise Park" of the insurance company Baloise, a publicly accessible square is also being created, which the Canton of Basel-Stadt and Baloise are jointly realizing.
The Baloise site, on which three new buildings of the insurance company are being constructed, is located in the immediate vicinity of the SBB railroad station.
A large public open space, the "Baloise Platz", is to enhance the area around Centralbahnplatz, Aeschenplatz and the Aeschengraben, which is being redesigned. Among other things, the pedestrian connections from the train station and Aeschenplatz will be improved and the overall effect of the square, which connects to the Aeschengraben boulevard currently under construction, will be enhanced. Baloise is contributing CHF 539,000 to the cost of the redesign, which amounts to just under CHF 1.9 million, according to the canton of Basel-Stadt.
The substructure of the square with ballroom and underground garages has been completed in the shell since spring 2017. Currently, the structural engineering work is being prepared, and the shell should reach ground level by the fall. The start of construction work for the other two construction fields is planned for early 2018. The three new buildings will be completed by 2020.
At Baloise Park will create a total of around 1,300 office workplaces, of which the insurer itself will occupy around 700. The other 600 spaces will be rented out. The high-rise will house the five-star Mövenpick Hotel with 264 rooms. The top seven of the tower's 24 floors will be rented out as office space. In total, Baloise is investing over 300 million in the project.
