Groundbreaking ceremony for "Central" project in Andermatt
On October 20, 2017, the groundbreaking ceremony for the "Central" project took place in Andermatt (UR). The future main building north at the train station will offer residential and commercial space on around 9,000 sqm.

For the construction and management of the building, the three companies involved, Andermatt Swiss Alps, Schmid Holding and BVZ Holding, have founded Andermatt Central AG, which on the one hand will finance and realize the project and on the other hand will be responsible for the marketing and operation of the building. Investments of around CHF 30 million have been budgeted for the project.
The new train station in Andermatt will serve as a link between the historic village "Andermatt Zentrum" and the new vacation village "Andermatt Reuss", both as a traffic hub for trains and post buses and as a place of transit and stay for travelers, guests and villagers. An underpass will enable passers-by to get from the historic village to the station concourse and to the platforms of the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway or to the Andermatt Swiss Alps vacation village.
In addition to the basement for parking spaces, the "Central" building project will have a hall floor with commercial and counter areas, a perron floor with commercial and office areas, and four upper floors with 48 apartments (1.5 to 4.5 rooms). The building was designed by the architectural firm Germann & Achermann from Altdorf.
According to the schedule, the excavation pit will first be prepared and secured before building construction can begin in April 2018. The first partial opening of the hall and perron floor is planned for December 2018. Central" is scheduled to be completely finished and put into operation in November 2019.
