Thun: Meyer Burger ceases production
The photovoltaic company Meyer Burger Technology will give up its production site in Thun next year. The company intends to develop new solutions for areas that are no longer needed.

Meyer Burger Technology produces equipment for wafer and module processes as well as applications for building-integrated photovoltaics in Thun. All production activities are expected to be discontinued by the end of 2018 and partly relocated to China, the company says. The reason is that the existing production capacities are underutilized.
In the future, only the Global Sales and Marketing, Services, Research and Development and the Headquarters of Meyer Burger will be located in Thun.
The solar supplier is one of the larger employers in the region. According to media reports, the city wants to examine whether new companies can be located on the vacated sites. The technology group itself also wants to look for solutions for subsequent use.
