By 2019, the Familienheim-Genossenschaft Zürich (FGZ) is building a new neighborhood center in the Friesenberg district of Zurich at the foot of the Uetliberg. At the beginning of December, the first part of the construction project was inaugurated with a large square in the center, around which the Italian restaurant "La Piazza", a Coop supermarket, small stores, a medical group practice and apartments are grouped.

The winning project of the Zurich architectural firm Enzmann Fischer Partner AG, which emerged from an architectural competition, will be realized. In addition to a healthcare building (Almacasa, MediX, therapy rooms, etc.), it comprises 37 apartments in the first construction phase and 100 residential units (a quarter of which will be rent-subsidized) in the final phase. Construction work has already begun on the second phase with a new five-story building along Schweighofstrasse and Arbentalstrasse.

Completion of the building ensemble is scheduled for late fall 2019. The investment sum for the FGZ's new Friesenberg neighborhood center is around CHF 92 million.
