Lucerne: Marko Virant appointed new Head of Real Estate

Marko Virant will head the Real Estate department of the City of Lucerne from March. He succeeds Friederike Pfromm, who left the city administration at the end of January 2017.

Dr. Marko Virant (1963) has extensive management experience in the Swiss construction and real estate industry. He was Division Manager of MIBAG Property + Facility Management, Managing Director of Avireal and CEO of Swisshaus AG. Virant was also a partner in the consulting firms ICME Real Estate and Finance-Force. There he advised real estate departments in the public and private sectors on strategic and organisational issues.

As a sideline, Virant built up the Corporate and Public Real Estate Management module at the IFZ of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts as a student advisor and also lectured in this field.

Virant grew up in Darmstadt, where he completed his engineering studies after graduating from high school. He later earned a doctorate in technical sciences at the ETH Zurich, Department of Civil Engineering. For the position as Head of Real Estate for the City of Lucerne, Virant prevailed in a multi-stage application process.
