Helvetia Versicherungen acquired the almost 4,000-square-meter site between Glattalbahn, Schaffhauserstrasse, Sägereistrasse and Europastrasse in summer 2014. The project by the architectural firm Armon Semadeni Architekten envisages a residential and commercial building there, directly adjacent to Glattbrugg station. According to Helvetia, of the 5,747 sqm total area, around 980 sqm is retail and commercial space and 1,820 sqm is office space. In addition, 44 apartments and 45 parking spaces are planned.

The development is characterized by a meandering overall form with two taller, distinctive building sections. These buildings will contain 1.5- to 4.5-room apartments. With the apartments, Helvetia says it is targeting residential communities, couples and individuals of all ages. A square with trees and a water feature is planned between the station and the new buildings, which can also be used for outdoor catering.

Helvetia submitted the building application to the city at the beginning of December 2017. After about four weeks of preliminary examination by the building authorities, the application will be published on January 11. The construction profiles are to be erected on the same day, Helvetia says. The building permit is expected in summer 2018. The demolition work is scheduled to start in spring 2019, and the new building is expected to be ready for occupation in spring 2021.
