Allschwil plans residential project on Wegmatten site

140 new apartments and a large park are to be built on the Arael Wegmatten in Allschwil. This is to implement the master plan approved by the electorate in 2012.

"The Wegmatten master plan envisages use in three parts," says Jürgen Johner, head of the Development Planning Building department at the municipality of Allschwil (BL). Two-thirds of the 39,000-square-meter area between Baselmattweg and Bachgraben is to be upgraded as a public park. Adjacent to the existing residential quarter, four taller residential buildings will be built in the last third of the site, grouped around a green area.

"Wohnen Wegmatten" will include 100 apartments ranging from 70 square meters to 145 square meters of living space, according to the municipality. The first floors of the four houses will house community rooms, studios, small stores, a café and a crèche. In one of the four houses there will also be at least 40 retirement apartments with services. The four buildings will share an underground garage with 150 parking spaces, and the development will also be easily accessible by public transport.

"The municipal council gives the building land at an advantageous building lease rate and in return the investor undertakes to offer these retirement apartments at permanently favorable rents," says municipal president Nicole Nüssli.

The Allschwil Residents' Council will discuss the Wegmattenpark and neighborhood planning proposals in the spring.
