The building permit for the new campus of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) was issued in July last year, and since then work has been underway on the project on the Suurstoffi site in Risch Rotkreuz, which has now reached another milestone with the laying of the foundation stone.

The Lucerne School of Business will relocate the Institute of Financial Services IFZ from Zug to Rotkreuz in fall 2019. The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts - Computer Science has already been located on the Suurstoffi site since fall 2016. It is rented in different buildings until it moves into the definitive premises. With the move, Rotkreuz will become the HSLU's IT and finance campus.

The entire construction project directly at Rotkreuz train station comprises three buildings with a total of 26,000 square meters of rentable office and commercial space; the investment volume amounts to CHF 185 million. Two of the three buildings are being constructed using the wood-hybrid construction method. Around 70 percent of the space has been leased to HSLU for 30 years. The new premises should be ready for occupation by fall 2019. The second stage of this construction field with additional commercial space will be completed by summer 2020.

On the Suurstoffi site, Zug Estates is building a mixed-use quarter right next to Rotkreuz station that will provide space for around 1,500 residents, 2,000 students and over 2,500 jobs. When completed, the new high-rise building on the Suurstoffi site will be the tallest wooden building in Switzerland at 60 meters. The current record holder is the S22 high-rise, which is also located on the site.
