Zurich: Axa presents interim tenant for "Haus zum Falken

Axa Winterthur has concretized its plans for the "Haus zum Falken" at Stadelhofen station. As part of an interim use, a restaurant and a showroom are to be operated there.

According to Axa Winterthur, the family business Bindella will run the restaurant "Mandarino" in the existing "Haus zum Falken" from April and until the building is demolished. The background to this is that the Karrer couple, who have run the traditional Mandarin café there since 1984, will retire at the end of March 2018. Axa Winterthur was looking for an operator to continue running the gastronomy until at least the end of October 2018 until the "Haus zum Falken" is demolished.

At the same time as the Mandarino, the Swiss Textile Collection association moves into premises at the rear of the building. The second-hand store "xess + baba" is now located on Tödistrasse. The Swiss Textile Collection exhibits examples from its collection of Swiss haute couture ensembles from the 1940s to the 1990s and offers fabrics and dresses for sale.

The showroom and food service operation are scheduled to open on April 19.

In January, Zurich's city council gave the green light for Axa Winterthur's new building project at Stadelhofen station. The insurer wants to replace the "Haus zum Falken" with a commercial building with an underground bicycle station. The investment volume will be CHF 46 million. The new building was designed by the renowned architect Santiago Calatrava, who also designed the Stadelhofen train station.
