Root/Lucerne: Start of construction for "Square one
With the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the commercial and residential building "Square one", the D4 Business Village Lucerne continues to develop dynamically. This is already the fourth construction phase that Suva is realizing in Root.

With an investment volume of around CHF 60 million, an architecturally unique cube with 11,000 sqm of office and service space and 32 apartments, mainly designed as maisonettes, will be built on the upper floors by the end of 2019.
While the previous stages tended to create smaller rental spaces in the interest of a broad mix of services, the new "Square One" offers freely subdivisible spaces for larger space requirements on entire floors or partial areas of 800 sqm or more. Suva was able to win CSS as an anchor tenant.
Particularly noteworthy in the "Square One" head-end building in the D4 Business Village Luzern is the very successful mixed use of "office and residential". "In modern and large real estate projects, there is a tendency to bring working, living and leisure closer together," says Bruno Kunz, Head of D4 Business Village Lucerne.
The D4 Business Village Luzern is an initiative of Suva and was put into operation in September 2003. D4 means 4 dimensions: A location full of advantages, an architecture that lives, a networking that promotes growth and a service concept that encompasses everything. With over 100 companies and around 2,000 employees on 53,000 sqm of floor space, the site has developed successfully since then. Currently, 170 properties are part of Suva's real estate portfolio, which, with a value of CHF 5 billion, accounts for ten percent of its fixed assets.
